CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Emergency response in Harrison and Madison townships, and those served by mutual aid, will be bolstered by the addition of two new fire engines, following the Harrison Township Board of Trustees’ vote last week to approve their purchase. The new equipment will expand the Harrison Township Division of Fire’s capacity to respond to fires and other emergencies, improving service to residents across both communities.
The department added a 2,000-gallon tanker truck to its fleet this month. A 101-foot platform ladder truck is scheduled to arrive in 2027. Together, the vehicles will support a more capable and resilient regional fire response.
The purchases are made possible through collaboration and financial support from the Pickaway County Port Authority (PCPA), Pickaway Progress Partnership (P3), the Harrison Township Board of Trustees, the Pickaway County Board of Commissioners, the Pickaway County Treasurer’s Office, and revenue from the Madison Township Joint Economic Development District (JEDD).
“We are extremely grateful to all who came together to make the purchase of these two new fire engines possible,” Harrison Township Division of Fire Chief Shawn Davidson said. “To see this deal cross the finish line and know that we are better equipped to serve our communities is a major accomplishment.”
The Harrison Township Fire Department added a 2,000-gallon tanker truck to its fleet this month.
To finance the purchase, the Pickaway County Treasurer’s Office will buy $2.6 million in revenue bonds issued by the PCPA.
“Not only will these new trucks allow us to better serve Harrison and Madison townships, but the bonds will also be held as part of the county’s investment portfolio,” Pickaway County Treasurer John Howley said. “This is a win-win for public safety and fiscal responsibility.”
The bonds will be repaid through a combination of interest payments from Harrison Township and revenue from the Madison Township JEDD, which is supported by Anduril’s Arsenal-1 development in northwestern Pickaway County. During the term of the bonds, Madison Township will be served by the Harrison Township Division of Fire.
“Our Port Authority and P3 are focused on bringing community-minded businesses and talent to Pickaway County,” Economic Development Director for P3 Brian Hill said. “It’s wonderful to see new developments already creating lasting impacts on the region.”
“Through collaboration with our neighbors in Madison Township, our first responders will have the equipment they need to serve their communities more safely and effectively,” Harrison Township Board of Trustees Chairman Donnie Mayse said. “Commissioners Gary Scherer, Jay Wippel and Champ Henson played a key role in bringing everyone to the table. Their leadership and insights were invaluable during the planning process.”
