LOGAN, Ohio — A Hocking County woman is facing multiple felony charges, including murder, in connection with the death of her 10-month-old daughter, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced.
Daisha Somers, 27, formerly of Logan, was arrested this week following a 10-count felony indictment returned by a Hocking County grand jury on Wednesday. Somers was taken into custody near Point Pleasant, West Virginia, with assistance from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office and the West Virginia State Police. She is currently being held at the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville, West Virginia.
Somers is charged with two counts of murder, one count of involuntary manslaughter, one count of felonious assault, one count of corrupting another with drugs, four counts of endangering children, and one count of aggravated possession of drugs.
According to investigators, Somers’ infant daughter, Ka’myla, was transported to a hospital on Nov. 20, 2022, after suffering severe head trauma. Despite medical treatment, the child died three days later on Nov. 23.
The indictment follows an extensive investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Special Victims Unit. The Hocking County Sheriff’s Office initially handled the case and later requested assistance from BCI. The Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Section is prosecuting the case.
Authorities emphasized that an indictment is a formal accusation, and Somers is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
