Morrow County Sheriff’s Deputy Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting in Marengo

MARENGO, OH — A Morrow County Sheriff’s deputy was fatally shot during a response to a domestic situation on Monday, May 26, 2025, according to a statement released by Sheriff John L. Hinton at 07:27 AM EDT on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. The incident occurred at a residence in the 100 block of County Road 26 in Marengo.

Sheriff Hinton reported that deputies responded to the call earlier Monday evening. Upon arrival, an officer-involved shooting took place, resulting in the deputy being struck. The deputy was transported to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries. The subject involved in the incident was also shot and is in serious condition at a hospital.

“There are no words to express the pain being felt by our office,” Sheriff Hinton stated, reflecting the deep loss felt by the department. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation, is leading the ongoing investigation. All inquiries are directed to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office as the case remains active.
