CINCINNATI – A small earthquake was recorded late Sunday morning in southwest Ohio, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The quake registered a magnitude of 2.5 and struck near Springboro, about 2.3 miles north-northwest of the city and 3.2 miles east-northeast of Franklin. Nearby communities such as Miamisburg and Centerville may also have felt the tremor. Columbus, roughly 71 miles away, was outside the main area of impact and unlikely to have experienced significant shaking.

USGS data indicates the quake’s epicenter was about 7.5 miles deep, with shaking felt primarily in the immediate area.

No injuries or property damage have been reported.

For context, Ohio’s most notable recent earthquake occurred on New Year’s Eve 2011 in Youngstown, when a 4.0 magnitude quake tied to a brine injection well was felt across a wide region.
