LIVONIA, Mich. (Aug. 28, 2025) – A stolen Chevrolet Cruze was stopped in dramatic fashion Thursday morning after Michigan State Police troopers and Livonia officers worked together to end the chase on I-96.

According to MSP, troopers spotted the vehicle around 7:25 a.m. in Detroit before it sped westbound onto I-96. As the car entered Livonia, officers with the Livonia Police Department deployed a Grappler device—a netting tool designed to safely disable fleeing vehicles.

The device snagged the car, tearing off its rear axle as the suspect tried to continue fleeing. The driver and two passengers were taken into custody without injury.

Police said the driver, a 27-year-old man from Brighton, is being held at the Livonia Police Department on charges of possessing a stolen vehicle as well as a probation violation warrant. The two female passengers were also arrested after authorities discovered they had multiple warrants from other jurisdictions.

Michigan State Police praised the use of the Grappler device, which prevented a dangerous high-speed pursuit.

“We continue to use technology to find and stop criminals in our communities,” said F/Lt. Mike Shaw. “Thanks to the Livonia Police Department and their Grappler device, these suspects are now in jail without the need for a pursuit.”

No injuries were reported, and the investigation remains ongoing.
