Manhunt Underway After Inmate Escapes Scioto County Medical Facility

SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio – July 31, 2025 — Authorities are searching for a 61-year-old inmate who escaped from a lockdown medical facility in Scioto County during the early morning hours of Thursday, July 31. The escape occurred sometime between midnight and 7:00 a.m.

The inmate, identified as Jimmy Wombles, was in custody on multiple serious charges including rape, possession of firearms under disability, and possession of controlled substances. Officials say he fled the facility under unknown circumstances, and a warrant for escape has since been issued by the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.

Law enforcement agencies are warning the public not to approach Wombles if spotted. Instead, anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to immediately contact authorities. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office is working in conjunction with the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service to locate and apprehend the fugitive.

Wombles is described as a white male, 61 years old, with a birthdate of November 18, 1963. Additional details about his escape or how he may be traveling have not yet been released.
