CHILLICOTHE, OH – August 8, 2025 – A man was arrested for public indecency following a bizarre series of events that unfolded Wednesday afternoon at Freedom’s Pathway Apartments and later at a nearby bank on VA property.

Deputies Johansen and Jackson with the Ross County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at 461 Hines Blvd involving disorderly conduct and indecent exposure. According to witnesses Gloria Wolford and David Higdon, 58-year-old Daniel Strehle had been causing a disruption in the apartment complex lobby while dressed only in a shirt and a blue towel. Wolford reported that Strehle dropped the towel, fully exposing himself in front of Higdon and others when asked to move his large van and boat trailer that was blocking the lot.

Deputy Johansen reviewed a video provided by Higdon showing Strehle behaving erratically in the building’s lobby before disrobing and walking outside unclothed, making no attempt to conceal himself.

Deputies later located Strehle at a bank on VA property, where he had reportedly gone after leaving the apartment complex. Upon contact, deputies found him nude from the waist down and attempting to conceal himself with an American flag. Strehle explained to officers that he had tried putting on his pants three times but became frustrated, stating he “didn’t want the pee hole at his butthole,” so he removed them entirely.

Strehle was taken into custody for public indecency. However, the Ross County Jail refused to admit him due to an infection in his legs. He was subsequently transported by Scioto Township EMS to Adena Regional Medical Center for treatment.

His VA social worker has been notified and is expected to follow up on his care. Strehle was issued a court summons for August 14, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.

The vehicle and trailer involved were towed by Vest Towing at the request of the bank, as it was parked improperly on private VA property.
