CHILLICOTHE, OH – A man was arrested Saturday evening at the Chillicothe Walmart on River Trace Lane after allegedly attempting to steal merchandise while carrying a loaded handgun.
Chillicothe Police were dispatched to 85 River Trace Lane just before 7:30 p.m. on June 8 in response to a theft in progress. Upon arrival, officers Kyle Curry and Campbell found loss prevention detaining the suspect near the grocery entrance.
The individual, later identified as Donald Krafthefer, was taken into custody. A routine check revealed Krafthefer had an active warrant (FTA #TRD2502058ABC) through the Chillicothe Police Department.
While conducting a search, officers discovered a Taurus G2C handgun tucked in the suspect’s waistband. Dispatch confirmed the firearm was not reported stolen.
Additionally, Krafthefer was found to have two stolen watches, valued at $26, concealed in his pants. Police noted he had passed all points of sale without paying for the items.

Krafthefer was read his Miranda rights and stated that he understood. Loss prevention requested that he be barred from the Walmart property, and Krafthefer was informed that returning would result in a criminal trespass charge.
He was transported to the Ross County Jail and charged with robbery due to being armed during the theft. A pre-indictment for robbery is being prepared, and Krafthefer is scheduled to appear in Chillicothe Municipal Court on Monday, June 9 at 9:00 a.m.
