CIRCLEVILLE, OH — May 7, 2025 — Voters have rejected the Logan Elm School District’s levy renewal and 1% income tax proposal, dealing a significant financial blow to the district as it faces the potential loss of 17% of its operating revenue.

The ballot initiative—comprising both a 1% income tax renewal and an operating levy—received majority support from Pickaway County voters, but was overwhelmingly rejected in Hocking County, ultimately leading to its failure.

In Pickaway County, voters supported the 1% income tax 54% to 45%, and the operating levy 56% to 43%. However, in Hocking County, the results were starkly different, with just 26% supporting the tax and 25% backing the levy, compared to 73% and 74% against, respectively.

The final combined vote totals were:

  • 1% income tax: 882 in favor, 928 against
  • Operating levy: 849 in favor, 957 against

District officials had emphasized the importance of these funding sources, which make up nearly one-fifth of Logan Elm’s operating budget. Without renewal, school leaders warn that essential programs and services for students may face cuts.

The district has not yet announced whether it will attempt to place the measures back on the ballot in a future election.
