CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Chillicothe Police Department handled a wide array of criminal investigations on Saturday, March 7, ranging from a kidnapping complaint to drug possession and burglary.
Major Investigations: Kidnapping and Burglary
Officers were called to the 1000 block of Columbus Street at 10:16 a.m. to investigate a report of a kidnapping. While the incident is currently categorized as “Non-Criminal” in the initial media report, police confirmed that a formal complaint was taken and the investigation is ongoing.
Earlier that morning, at 7:49 a.m., units were dispatched to E. 4th Street on a report of a possible burglary. Officers determined that a trespass had occurred in an occupied structure; that case remains under investigation.
Walmart Theft Leads to Drug Charges
The Walmart on River Trace Lane was the site of two separate police responses Saturday afternoon and evening:
- At 5:04 p.m., officers responded to a standard theft complaint.
- At 8:07 p.m., a second theft call resulted in more serious charges. During the investigation into “theft by deception,” officers reportedly discovered a Schedule I or II controlled substance. The suspect in that case is facing charges for both theft and felony drug possession.
Juvenile and Welfare Concerns
Late Saturday evening, officers were called to Beechwood Street regarding an unruly juvenile. Upon further investigation, the youth was also entered into the system as a missing person.
Earlier in the day, police conducted a welfare check at a residence on E. Main Street just after noon. The details of that check have not yet been released as the investigation continues.
Traffic and Disorderly Conduct
The department also managed several disruptions and accidents:
- Yoctangee Parkway: Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident at Chillicothe Middle School involving a driver who failed to stay within marked lanes.
- N. Bridge Street: Police were dispatched to the 1200 block for a disorderly conduct call, which resulted in a criminal trespass investigation.
- Parking Dispute: A disorderly conduct complaint on N. Hickory Street was traced back to a parking violation where one vehicle was parked within one foot of another.
