CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Kenzington Youkin, a Teays Valley High School representative, is vying for the crown of Miss Pumpkin Show this year. For Kenzington, the Circleville Pumpkin Show has been a family tradition for as long as she can remember.

“The Pumpkin Show has always been a place where families, friends, and neighbors come together,” she said. “I’ve attended since I was born and cherish my roots in Pickaway County. My great-grandfather opened the first sheet metal fabrication company in Circleville in 1947, my grandfather served 19 years as Clerk of Courts, and my family’s Dairy Sheds have served the community for generations. These connections remind me of the traditions and love that continue to shape who I am today.”

When describing the Pumpkin Show to newcomers, Kenzington highlights its blend of tradition and excitement. “It’s more than an event — it’s a celebration of our small-town community, with giant pumpkins topping 2,200 pounds, the largest pumpkin pie, festive parades, marching bands, rides, games, and every kind of pumpkin food you can imagine. Visitors from around the world come to enjoy what’s called ‘The Greatest Free Show on Earth.’”

Favorite Traditions

Her favorite Pumpkin Show tradition is the Miss Pumpkin Show parade and contest. “As a child, my parents would bring me and my siblings on Wednesday evening to cheer on representatives from local schools. My dad would put me on his shoulders so I could see the stage, and we’d all guess who would win. Two years ago, I had the joy of sharing this tradition when my cousin, Sophia, was crowned Miss Pumpkin Show. It’s a tradition that will continue with my family for many years to come.”

Personal Accomplishments and Inspirations

Kenzington is proud of overcoming three meniscus surgeries while pursuing athletics. “Each setback taught me resilience and determination,” she said. “True strength isn’t about never facing obstacles — it’s about rising every time you fall.”

She cites her grandfather, Jim, as her greatest inspiration. “He’s a man of quiet strength and unwavering dedication. Watching his kindness, patience, humility, and work ethic has taught me that challenges are opportunities to grow, and that integrity and perseverance are true measures of success.”

Favorite Pumpkin Show Foods and Memories

Lindsey’s pumpkin donuts are a must for Kenzington. “No matter how long the line is, they are the true taste of the Pumpkin Show,” she said. Her most memorable experience was being crowned Second Attendant for Little Miss in 2015, a moment she describes as her first special role in the festival.

Why She Wants to Be Miss Pumpkin Show

“To me, it’s more than wearing a crown,” Kenzington explained. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to represent a community built on tradition, family, and small-town pride. I want to serve as a positive role model, share the history and joy of the festival, and encourage younger generations to get involved. Above all, I want everyone to feel welcomed to experience the ‘Greatest Free Show on Earth.’”

Advice for Future Contestants

Kenzington encourages young girls dreaming of the title to treasure every step of the journey. “Get involved in school, sports, church, or volunteering. These experiences shape your character and prepare you to be a leader. Carry yourself with grace, be kind, and stay true to yourself. Your story and your values are what make a lasting impression.”

Kenington will compete alongside other candidates for the 2025 Miss Pumpkin Show crown, taking part in the Wednesday Night Parade on October 15 before competing for Queen at Pumpkin Show Park.
