Chillicothe — More “Juneteenth” events follow the Pump House art show opening on Thursday, at the Lucy Hayes Heritage Center and Ross County Historical Society.
The “Chillicothe Jazz Funk And Blues Concert” at the Majestic Theatre followed the Pump House opening, on Friday evening. Coming up:
This Saturday is the Juneteenth “Celebration of Freedom” at the Lucy Hayes Heritage Center, featuring panelists Tamra Lowe, Paul Dalton, and Robert “Trey” Hitchens, on the importance of the Juneteenth holiday.
Dalton will reprise his energetic presentation on his ancestry from Sally Hemmings. Hear Dalton and co-organizer Mike Jones in their own words in the below video.
The event will start at 2pm June 14 at 90 West 6th Street in Chillicothe. Everyone is welcome to the free event, with light refreshments served.
Then the Ross County Historical Society will host their Juneteenth celebration on June 21st, featuring a reception and program for the grand opening of their newest exhibit, “Unheard Voices: A Selective History of African American Men and Women of Chillicothe and Ross County.” The free event runs 2 to 4 pm that Saturday.
The “Juneteenth” show at the Pump House Center for the Arts continues to the end of the month. The Pump House Center for the Arts is closed Mondays, but open most other days at least 11 to 4 – and is free.
