CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A quiet neighborhood was shattered late Wednesday night when a drive-by shooting targeted a residence on Fleet Street, leaving a home riddled with bullet holes and investigators scouring the roadway for evidence.

At approximately 10:28 p.m. on April 8, 2026, Chillicothe Police officers were dispatched to 900 Fleet Street following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers met with the homeowner, who reported that an unknown assailant had opened fire on his residence while he was inside alone.

Evidence in the Roadway

The responding officer, Joseph Gay, reported finding a trail of ballistic evidence stretching down the block. Investigators located and collected seven 9mm shell casings littered across Fleet Street and in the nearby grass. The positioning of the casings suggests the shooter fired while traveling eastbound past the residence.

Damage to the Residence

The physical evidence at the scene painted a picture of the attack. Bullet holes were discovered on the northwest corner and the front of the home. Inside the residence, the violence of the encounter was even more apparent:

  • Several rounds penetrated the exterior wall, striking a gun safe located inside the house.
  • One bullet traveled through a northwest window, flew through the kitchen, and ricocheted into a hallway near the bathroom.
  • Officers recovered three bullet fragments and a bullet base from inside the home.

Miraculously, —the sole occupant at the time of the 10:20 p.m. incident was not struck by the gunfire.

Search for Suspects

As of Thursday morning, police have not identified a suspect or a motive for the shooting. Investigators spent the night canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and surveillance footage.

Neighbors in the 800 block of Fleet Street, as well as local businesses on Hildegarten Street, have indicated they may have camera footage available for police review today.

All recovered ballistic evidence has been logged into the police property room for testing. The Chillicothe Police Department is asking anyone with information or additional video of the area during the time of the shooting to contact them immediately.
