HUNTINGTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — After nearly half a century in the fire service, Huntington Township Fire Chief Larry Cuckler is hanging up his helmet.
At a special meeting on Aug. 9, 2025, the Huntington Township Board of Trustees formally accepted Cuckler’s retirement, effective Aug. 10.
Cuckler’s firefighting career began in 1976 with the Scioto Township Fire Department, where he served as both a firefighter and EMT. In 1995, he joined the Huntington Township Fire Department as a volunteer, rising through the ranks to become chief around 2012.
During his tenure, Cuckler was instrumental in establishing paid duty crews for the department, which now boasts six full-time members in addition to part-time and volunteer staff.
While stepping down from his leadership role, Cuckler will continue to serve the community on a part-time basis.
The board also announced that Captain Austin Depugh will serve as interim chief until a permanent appointment is made.
