LOGAN, Ohio (Nov. 7, 2025) — Families looking to escape the chaos and commercialism of the holidays can find peace and wonder this season in Ohio’s Hocking Hills. The region’s 11th Annual Hocking Hills Holiday Treasure Hunt, now underway through Dec. 12, invites visitors to slow down, explore, and shop local amid the natural beauty of one of the state’s most scenic destinations.
The free event blends festive fun with small-town charm. Treasure maps are available at the Hocking Hills Welcome Center (13178 OH-664 Scenic, Logan) or online at ExploreHockingHills.com. Participants visit at least six of the 20 participating shops or art studios, collecting stamps along the way for a chance to win prizes — including a Grand Prize Weekend Getaway for four featuring a two-night cabin stay, canopy tour passes, a canoe trip, mini golf, candle-making, and dining experiences.

The Treasure Hunt highlights the area’s independent shops and artisans, from antique dealers and coffee roasters to local brewers, distillers, and candy makers. Visitors can even explore the last remaining washboard factory in the U.S. or purchase handmade soaps and glass-blowing class certificates — perfect for those seeking unique, meaningful gifts.

Festivities continue throughout the season with the Downtown Logan Christmas Parade on Dec. 6, featuring Santa, live music, open houses, and the “Gifts That Give Back” Holiday Market. The following week, on Dec. 12, the beloved Christmas in Ash Cave event offers a one-of-a-kind family experience. Guests can enjoy a lighted walk to Ash Cave, warm up by an open fire with refreshments, sing carols, meet an old-fashioned Santa, and help decorate a tree for local wildlife.
For an extra touch of holiday magic, families can board the Christmas Santa Train from the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway every Thursday and Saturday through Dec. 21.
Visitors are encouraged to make a weekend of it by booking one of Hocking Hills’ cozy accommodations — from cabins with hot tubs and fireplaces to whimsical treehouses, yurts, and geodomes. Winter hikes through Hocking Hills State Park’s frozen waterfalls and rugged gorges provide the perfect way to reconnect with nature and loved ones.
Located just 40 miles southeast of Columbus, the Hocking Hills region offers an authentic, unplugged holiday experience — complete with woodland spas, salt caves, and the John Glenn Astronomy Park for stargazing.
