JEFFERSONTOWN, Ky. — Jeffersontown Police say a holiday-themed drug trafficking attempt was stopped just days before Christmas after officers seized more than 55 pounds of suspected methamphetamine wrapped to look like festive presents.

According to authorities, Jeffersontown Police detectives, working alongside the Kentucky State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration, arrested Jacob Talamantes, 23, of Nebraska, on Dec. 22, 2025, during a narcotics investigation in the 11500 block of Bluegrass Parkway.
Investigators said Talamantes arrived at the location in a vehicle and attempted to walk away from officers but was detained. A police K9 conducted an exterior sniff of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of narcotics. A subsequent search of the trunk uncovered multiple boxes wrapped in Christmas paper.
Police said the packages contained more than 55 pounds of suspected methamphetamine.
During questioning, Talamantes reportedly told investigators he was traveling from Iowa and intended to traffic the drugs.
Talamantes was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine). Authorities said additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

“No amount of festive wrapping can disguise the harm these drugs inflict on families and communities,” said Jeffersontown Police Chief Richard Sanders. “The coordinated efforts of partner agencies ensured these holiday-wrapped packages never reached the streets.”
Jeffersontown Police credited the Kentucky State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration for their assistance in the investigation.
