LOGAN, Ohio — Outdoor enthusiasts are invited to bundle up and hit the trails as the Ohio Department of Natural Resources hosts the 60th Annual Hocking Hills Winter Hike on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

The long-running winter tradition is also being recognized this year as an official America 250 celebration event, marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

“Each winter, Hocking Hills transforms into one of the most awe-inspiring landscapes in the state,” said ODNR Director Mary Mertz. “Celebrating 60 years of this hike while also honoring America 250 makes this year especially meaningful.”

The six-mile hike begins at Upper Falls at Old Man’s Cave and winds through snow-dusted trails lined with towering hemlocks and frozen waterfalls. Participants will pass several of the park’s most iconic natural landmarks, including Lower Falls, Cedar Falls, and Ash Cave.

The event will feature a rolling start between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. from the Hocking Hills State Park Visitors Center, located at 19852 State Route 664 South in Logan. Midway through the hike at Cedar Falls, participants will be offered complimentary bean soup and cornbread provided by the local Kiwanis Club, with donations accepted to support community programs. The hike concludes at Ash Cave, where the Lions Club will greet hikers with hot chocolate and doughnuts.

Due to limited parking at the visitors center, organizers encourage participants to carpool. Overflow parking will be available at Hocking Hills Elementary School, and return transportation will be provided from both Cedar Falls and Ash Cave.

ODNR advises hikers to dress in layers, protect exposed skin, and bring water and snacks. Ice traction cleats may be helpful if trail conditions are icy. Participants are also encouraged to inform someone of their hiking plans before heading out.

As part of ODNR’s Winter Hike Series, participants will receive a limited-edition Winter Hike Series decal while supplies last. Additional winter hiking safety tips and information on other winter events can be found on the ODNR website.
