ROVE CITY, OH — The Grove City Division of Police has identified the suspect involved in the October 8 shooting and standoff as 32-year-old Dominique Byrdsong. The incident left one officer injured, who has since been released from the hospital and is recovering well, according to police.

“We are grateful for all the support from our community,” Grove City Police said in a statement Thursday.

Investigators say Byrdsong barricaded himself inside a residence for approximately three hours after officers responded to reports of a burglary in progress. Officers established a perimeter around the home and repeatedly ordered the suspect to surrender.

After a foot pursuit, the suspect fired his weapon at officers, striking a Grove City officer. Grove City officers fired their weapons, striking the suspect. The subject later died.

. A handgun, similar to the one used in the incident, was recovered at the scene.

Further investigation revealed that the truck Byrdsong drove to the residence had been reported stolen the day before — October 7, 2025 — in Pickaway County. Detectives are working with the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office to coordinate the investigation related to the stolen vehicle.

The case remains under active investigation.
