2024 “Without Her” Is Only One of Latest Movies Made in Area
Chillicothe and Ross County — A local filmmaker is working with Chillicothe Council to create a film commission for the area.
Daniel Griesheimer saw the resolution get its first reading Monday evening. He says it is designed to help the arts community, encourage local jobs, and benefit the local economy – with grants and tax incentives, without raising taxes.
Griesheimer says he has been in the industry since 2012, and the CEO of “Ohio Creations” has been proposing the commission for a couple of years. He says Chillicothe is an “avenue away from Cincinnati and Columbus,” where there are healthy film industries. With major changes in the profession, he says Ohio is now the fourth largest film state, with state tax incentive since 2009.
A small movie production is classified as about $1M, and he says and it may have $300K or more to spend on a production – which would go towards such jobs as carpenters, welders, and even insurance agents.

The “Greater Chillicothe Ross County Film Commission” would make things easier for local filmmakers, and “bring creativity here.”
He says Chillicothe is very appealing, with the downtown “like a Hallmark move.” Several independents films have been made here, including one filmed at the old Dan’s IGA and Greenlawn Cemetery. He says even Stan Lee of Marvel Comics fame mimicked Chillicothe as a typical small town.
A recent film that he mentioned, and that his wife produced, is “Without Her” – which raised awareness of domestic abuse, homelessness, and the humane society. It premiered last fall at the Majestic Theatre.
Griesheimer has good filmmaking posts on his Facebook page, and says he can or will be be found on TikTok, Instagram, and Blue Sky. Hear him in his own words in the below interview video, as well as see my interview with Jessica Griesheimer at the premiere of “Without Her” on October 10th.
(And yes, for those of you who know local history, Daniel is related to the famous Griesheimer sisters.)
