COLUMBUS, Ohio — Governor Mike DeWine has released a statement expressing his condolences following the death of former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney, who passed away earlier today.

“Fran and I were saddened to learn this morning of the death of former Vice President Dick Cheney,” DeWine said in a statement.

DeWine reflected on his time serving alongside Cheney in Congress, describing him as “thoughtful, steady, and an advocate for his beloved Wyoming.”

He also praised Cheney’s leadership during his tenure as U.S. Secretary of Defense, when he directed military operations during Operation Desert Storm, calling it a defining moment in his service to the nation.

“Vice President Cheney served his country faithfully in every office he held. He will be missed,” DeWine added.

The governor and First Lady Fran DeWine extended their condolences to Cheney’s wife, Lynne, his daughters, Liz and Mary, and his grandchildren.
