WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Dave Taylor (OH-02) welcomed Lilyana Ansel, a junior at River Valley High School in Gallia County, to Washington, D.C. this week to celebrate her victory in the 2025 Congressional Art Competition. Ansel’s award-winning piece, titled “The Quiet One,” will be displayed in the halls of the U.S. Capitol for the next year.

Ansel, accompanied by her mother, visited the Capitol as part of the national recognition ceremony for winners from congressional districts across the country. Her artwork will also be featured on the official Congressional Art Competition website, which showcases the creativity of high school students nationwide.

Rep. Taylor selected Ansel’s artwork as the winner during a May 2 art show and reception held at Shawnee State University, where student artists and their families gathered to celebrate local talent.

“Lilyana’s artwork truly stood out for its depth and emotion,” Taylor said. “It’s an honor to see a young artist from our district represented in the halls of Congress.”

The Congressional Art Competition, now in its 44th year, was established in 1982 to recognize and encourage artistic talent among high school students. Thousands of students participate annually from across all 50 states.

Congressman Taylor represents Ohio’s Second Congressional District, which includes a wide area of southern and southeastern Ohio, including Gallia County. He serves on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the House Agriculture Committee.
