LANCASTER, Ohio (July 29, 2025) — In the wake of a severe flash flood over the weekend, the Lancaster Festival Board of Directors has announced the cancellation of all remaining concerts scheduled to take place at the Ohio University-Lancaster Wendel Stage.
The decision follows extensive damage caused by flooding during Saturday evening’s evacuation of the concert grounds. While no significant injuries or loss of life were reported, the site was left in an unsafe and unmanageable condition for future events.

“We are heartbroken,” the Festival Board said in a statement. “But safety remains our top priority.”
Damage to the site includes destruction and loss of key production equipment such as lighting, sound systems, and staging. Footbridges to the venue have been compromised, and most of the site’s portable restrooms and handwashing stations were either destroyed or swept away—raising additional sanitary concerns.
As a result, the Festival is cancelling Wendel Stage concerts originally scheduled for Tuesday, July 29; Wednesday, July 30; and Saturday, August 2.
Refunds Available Despite Usual Policy
While the Festival typically enforces a no-refund policy for weather-related cancellations, organizers have made an exception in light of the extreme circumstances. Refunds are now available for purchased tickets to the canceled performances and must be requested via www.lancasterfestival.org by August 31, 2025. Pre-ordered beverages that were not claimed before the evacuation will be automatically refunded.
The Festival acknowledged that issuing refunds will place a serious financial strain on its operations. Because ticket sales cover only a portion of production costs, officials are encouraging patrons to consider donating the value of their tickets to support the long-term sustainability of the Lancaster Festival.
“All unrefunded ticket values will be considered tax-deductible charitable contributions,” the statement added. Additional donations can be made through the Festival’s website.
Other Festival Events Still On
Despite the setback, the Lancaster Festival will continue as planned at alternate venues across the community. These include free children’s programs, concerts at Zane Square, and intimate café performances.
“We invite the community to continue celebrating the arts with us during this difficult time,” the board said. “Your support ensures we can bring music and joy to Lancaster for years to come.”
