Blaze Erupts as Fairgoers Watch Fireworks Nearby

CIRCLEVILLE, OH – July 7, 2025 — While many eyes were on the sky enjoying fireworks from the Pickaway County Fairgrounds Saturday night, fire crews in Circleville were battling a blaze just across town

Around 10:00 p.m. on July 6, the Circleville Fire Department was dispatched to 401 Mill Street, on Cargill property, after a report of a fire atop a massive crop mound.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that a large portion of the tarp covering the pile was engulfed in flames. Crews worked for approximately an hour to fully extinguish the blaze and prevent further damage to the stored grain.

No injuries were reported, and firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to the tarp material. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but early reports suggest it may have been caused by a stray firework from nearby Fourth of July weekend celebrations.

Circleville officials are urging residents to be cautious with fireworks, especially near agricultural or industrial facilities.
