PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — Northbound traffic on U.S. 23 was shut down for about an hour Tuesday evening following a two-vehicle crash that resulted in one of the vehicles catching fire.

The crash occurred around 5:45 p.m. in the area of the Interstate Batteries facility in Pickaway County. According to early reports, two vehicles were involved, and one of them became fully engulfed in flames shortly after the collision.

Emergency officials say the two occupants inside the burning vehicle were able to self-extricate before fire crews arrived on scene. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire while law enforcement and emergency responders worked to secure the area and investigate the crash.

Northbound lanes of U.S. 23 were closed while crews dealt with the crash, fire suppression, and roadway cleanup. Traffic was eventually reopened after approximately one hour.

At this time, there has been no official update on injuries. Authorities say additional information will be released as it becomes available.
