PIKETON, OH — Jack Galloway, a dedicated Fluor-BWXT Portsmouth (FBP) employee, is celebrating a remarkable 50 years of service at the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant, a site he’s called his workplace since 1975.

Galloway’s career began when Goodyear Atomic Corporation hired him as a janitor. Over the past five decades, he has risen through the ranks and now serves as a utility distribution operator at the Piketon facility, overseeing critical systems that help keep the plant running smoothly.

“It’s challenging, hard work, but I enjoy the people I work with,” Galloway said. Among his favorite duties is working on steam lines, where timing is everything. “You have to know when to close the valves at the right time when the steam blows out.”

Throughout his tenure, Galloway has contributed to various aspects of the site’s infrastructure, including the air plant, cooling towers, pump houses, and the sewage treatment plant.

Before his time at the Portsmouth site, Galloway worked for General Telephone & Electronics Corporation installing phone lines. He also co-founded and operated a local cable company.

A lifelong Pike County resident, Galloway grew up in Wakefield and graduated from Piketon High School in 1967. His connection to the plant runs deep—his father worked in maintenance, and his mother served meals in the X-102 Cafeteria. Today, he and his wife still reside in the area, where they enjoy time with their three children, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Stephanie McLaughlin, Director of Infrastructure & Site Maintenance at FBP, praised Galloway’s commitment and longevity.

“I have known Jackie Galloway for a long time. He has dedicated more than 50 years to the site—that is quite an accomplishment,” she said. “I appreciate his support throughout the years and am very thankful that he has been here helping keep the utilities operating at the plant.”
