WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, OH — Fayette County Airport is set to receive a major upgrade in its weather monitoring capabilities, thanks to a $438,933 federal grant secured by U.S. Representative Mike Carey (R-Ohio-15). The funding, provided through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Grant (AIG) program, will support the installation of a new Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS III P/T).
The current system at the airport has reached the end of its useful life, and the new AWOS will provide real-time, high-quality weather data critical for flight safety and airport operations. This marks the final construction phase of the upgrade.
“In order to set up Ohio’s economy for growth in the next century, we need to ensure our infrastructure is modernized,” Rep. Carey said in a statement. “This new system will help our rural airports modernize and provide greater safety for pilots and passengers alike.”
The improvements are part of a broader push to invest in infrastructure across rural and regional transportation hubs in Ohio, ensuring that facilities like Fayette County Airport are equipped with the tools needed for both safety and future development.
The new AWOS will enhance aviation safety by providing accurate, around-the-clock weather conditions for pilots flying into and out of the Washington Court House airport.
