PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — A late-night crash on State Route 752 turned deadly Friday night after a vehicle caught fire following the collision.
The crash occurred around 10 p.m. on SR 752 between Winchester Road and Ett Noecker Road. According to a 911 call, the incident involved a 2009 Cadillac vehicle that crashed and then became engulfed in flames.
Investigators determined that a 2009 Cadillac was traveling eastbound on State Route 752 when it went off the right side of the roadway into a shallow embankment. The vehicle continued through the grass before striking a tree, ejecting the driver and causing the car to catch fire.
An off-duty police officer who witnessed the crash was able to pull the driver away from the vehicle, which was fully engulfed in flames. The officer attempted life-saving measures until emergency medical crews arrived.
The driver was identified as Perry S. Swain, 65, of Ashville. Harrison Township Fire and EMS responded to the scene and pronounced Swain deceased.
Emergency responders arrived on scene and reported CPR was in progress; however, despite life-saving efforts, one person was pronounced deceased shortly after crews arrived.
The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office shut down the roadway for more than four hours as deputies conducted a crash reconstruction investigation to determine the circumstances leading up to the crash.
