PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — You may have noticed several out-of-county law enforcement units in Pickaway County on Tuesday; those units were in town running a special drug interdiction for the Sheriff’s department.

A joint operation by the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Criminal Interdiction Unit and Major Crimes Unit resulted in 42 traffic stops, three arrests, and the seizure of 1.5 grams of fentanyl and 15.1 grams of methamphetamine on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. Sheriff Hafey stated that the initiative aimed to increase law enforcement presence and remove illegal drugs from the streets.

“All law enforcement were sworn into service prior to the operation to make them legal in Pickaway County,” said Sheriff Hafey, “This operation was successful in getting drugs off the street and identifying people who are bringing drugs into our County.”

Two significant incidents highlighted the operation’s success. The first occurred at approximately 6:36 p.m. on US-22 near South Washington Street, where Officers observed a vehicle with non-functional brake lights. The vehicle, driven by Brian McCann, turned into the Duke Duchess shop at 235 E. Main St. without signaling for at least 100 feet. During the subsequent traffic stop at the gas pumps, passenger Daniel McCann exited the vehicle unprompted. With consent, searched Daniel and found a baggie of white powdery substance (later identified as fentanyl), a baggie of crystal-like substance (methamphetamine), a glass bubble pipe, and a cut straw.

A K9 officer and his K9 partner, which alerted to narcotics in the vehicle at 6:40 p.m., leading to the discovery of additional baggies containing fentanyl and methamphetamine, along with a cut straw, near the driver’s side. Both Brian and Daniel McCann were arrested, and evidence was secured for further analysis.

The second incident took place on June 11, 2025, at 5:05 p.m. on US-23 near Radcliff Road, where Law enforcement officers observed Andrew Price fail to signal for 100 feet before changing lanes. A traffic stop was initiated, and a K9 Officer alerted to narcotics at 5:11 p.m. A search revealed a crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, along with additional evidence including a glass jar containing a crystal-like substance, a black bag with a green leafy substance, and a glass jar with a black lid containing oil extract. Andrew Price was arrested and transported to the Pickaway County Jail, with all evidence collected for processing.

The seized drugs, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, and other substances, are in custody with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) for analysis. Sheriff Hafey emphasized the ongoing commitment to combating drug trafficking in the region, with further updates expected as the investigation progresses.
