PICKAWAY COUNTY, OH — A 53-year-old Darbyville man, Thomas Griffith, was found guilty of vehicular assault this week following a serious crash in Pickaway County on August 4, 2024, at 3:43 PM EDT. The incident, which led to his sentencing on May 28, 2025, stemmed from a road rage encounter that resulted in severe injuries.

Deputies responded to the scene on Pherson Pike near SR-56, where they found Griffith injured in his 2002 Blue Chevrolet Silverado 1500. A woman in another vehicle suffered critical injuries and required immediate helicopter transport to a medical facility. Witnesses reported that Griffith, driving northbound, engaged in a road rage incident with the driver ahead of him. At the SR-56 intersection, he aggressively accelerated around the other vehicle, leading to the collision. Video evidence from Westfall High School corroborated the sequence of events.

Griffith was convicted of vehicular assault and sentenced to 12 months in Pickaway County Jail, three years of community control, a five-year driver’s license suspension, and a restriction from leaving the state. He is also required to undergo a mental health assessment and pay $3,704.95 in restitution.
