
Lucasville, OH — The Scioto County community will come together on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, to honor the life and service of U.S. Marine Corps Corporal Nathaniel Edward Curtis, 21, a Lucasville native who tragically passed away following a traffic accident while stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
Cpl. Curtis’s body will be returned to his hometown in a solemn procession beginning at the Columbus Airport and traveling south along State Route 23. The route will pass through Waverly, Piketon, and Lucasville before arriving in Portsmouth. The final stretch of the procession will continue onto Chillicothe Street, turn left onto Ninth Street, and conclude at FC Daehler Mortuary, located at 915 Ninth Street, Portsmouth, OH 45662.
Residents wishing to pay their respects are encouraged to line the route beginning at approximately 12:00 to 12:15 PM, when the procession is expected to reach Portsmouth. Local law enforcement and veteran organizations will accompany the escort to honor Curtis’s service.
Born on September 24, 2001, in Portsmouth, Curtis graduated from Northwest High School in 2020 and enlisted in the Marine Corps shortly thereafter. He served as a digital wideband systems maintainer with Marine Wing Communications Squadron 18 at Camp Foster in Okinawa. He was promoted to Corporal in 2023 and earned numerous commendations, including the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
Those who knew Nathaniel remember him as spirited and adventurous, with a passion for the outdoors, target shooting, motorcycles, and even a quirky affection for the hyrax. His warmth, sense of humor, and loyalty left lasting impressions on fellow Marines, friends, and family alike.
Curtis is survived by his wife, Faith Curtis of Wheelersburg; his mother, Betty DeLong of Lucasville; and numerous family members and friends who will carry on his memory.

- Funeral: Friday, June 6, at 12:00 PM (Noon)
Both services will be held at FC Daehler Mortuary, 915 Ninth Street, Portsmouth, OH - Graveside Services with Military Honors: Immediately following at Hoffer Hill Community Church/Cemetery in Otway.
