CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — July 29, 2025 — It’s been one year since the tragic loss of Tahrea Maynard, a beloved reporter and community advocate who left a lasting mark on Scioto Valley and beyond. On August 7, 2025, family, friends, and community members will gather to honor her life, spirit, and the causes she championed during a special celebration of life in downtown Circleville.
Tahrea Maynard joined Scioto Post in its early years, bringing a deep passion for storytelling rooted in her love for local theater, children, and dogs. Her earliest articles focused on the things closest to her heart, and over time, she became known for highlighting family-friendly activities and uplifting events throughout southern Ohio, particularly in Hocking County.
Beyond her role as a journalist, Tahrea was a cherished friend and a vibrant part of the local community. Her kindness, creativity, and energy touched the lives of many. Tahrea would never believe how many people were affected by her kindness and high energy.
To celebrate her memory, the Maynard family has organized a lineup of joyful and heartfelt events reflecting the things Tahrea loved most—art, expression, music, and compassion. The public is warmly invited to join:
- 4:30 PM — Everyone Matters Parade (in front of Memorial Hall)
- 5:00 PM — Sprinkle Kindness Everywhere (downtown Circleville and beyond)
- 7:00–10:00 PM — Karaoke & Poetry Slam (at Scioto Valley Coffee)
These events are designed to honor Tahrea’s life in the most fitting way—through community, creativity, and love, all things that infused Tahrea, plus coffee.
“She believed in making people feel seen, valued, and inspired,” Jeremy Newman said. “This celebration is not just about remembering Tahrea, but continuing the joy and light she brought into the world.”
All who knew, loved, or were touched by Tahrea’s work are welcome to attend.
