COMMERCIAL POINT, OH – February 25, 2026 – The Village of Commercial Point has taken a decisive step to safeguard public health and safety by passing Ordinance 2026-03, prohibiting gas-fired electric generation facilities that use turbines within the village limits like Data Centers.

The ordinance, which went into effect immediately under emergency provisions, makes such industrial-scale power plants illegal in all zoning districts. Officials cited concerns over air pollution, continuous noise, heavy truck traffic, and the risks of fire or explosions near homes, schools, and businesses. The legislation also restricts turbines from being used for commercial power generation, ensuring that any small-scale or emergency generators remain for critical public services only.

Limited exemptions are allowed for emergency or standby generators serving hospitals, police and fire departments, water and wastewater facilities, and other essential infrastructure, provided they are not connected to the grid or used for commercial purposes.

Mayor’s Statement
Mayor Geiger addressed residents following the vote, emphasizing transparency and community involvement. “Northern Pickaway County is experiencing rapid growth, and we want to ensure we protect our residents’ health, safety, and welfare,” the mayor said. “This ordinance is a proactive step toward responsible, sustainable growth for Commercial Point.”

The mayor also announced that the village will begin work on a comprehensive planning process, with a steering committee to involve residents in guiding future development. “This is about moving forward responsibly,” the mayor said. “We can’t change past decisions, but we can position Commercial Point for thoughtful growth.”

The ordinance was passed unanimously after Council agreed to waive the usual readings, allowing it to take immediate effect. Violations of the law are classified as a first-degree misdemeanor, with daily penalties for noncompliance.

Residents with questions about the ordinance or other village actions are encouraged to contact the village office directly rather than relying on social media.
