CIRCLEVILLE — Downtown Circleville was alive with Halloween excitement on Tuesday, October 28, as hundreds of children, families, and community members filled the streets for the city’s annual Downtown Circleville Halloween Fun Night.
Sponsored by the City of Circleville, the event offered a safe and festive way for kids to celebrate the season. Trick-or-treating ran from 5 to 6 p.m., with local businesses handing out candy and decorating storefronts for visiting ghosts, goblins, superheroes, and princesses.
Following the candy-filled fun, participants gathered in Pumpkin Show Park for the lively costume contest at 6:15 p.m. Roughly 100 contestants competed across six age categories:
Baby to 3 years
Ages 4 to 6
Ages 7 to 9
Ages 10 to 12
Ages 13 and up
Group/Family costumes

Awards were presented for Most Creative/Original, Cutest, and Scariest costumes, and the competition showcased a mix of imagination, humor, and Halloween flair. Among the highlights: an 80s-themed “My Buddy and Cabbage Patch” duo, Ursula from The Little Mermaid, Elton John, a life-sized Furby, and a baby “hunter” stroller complete with a toy deer. Movie characters such as Grease, Alice in Wonderland, and Pirates of the Caribbean made appearances, alongside classic horror icons Chucky and Jason Voorhees. Video game favorites included Sonic, Minecraft, and Roblox, and one of the crowd’s favorite costumes was a giant walking whoopee cushion.
The baby division drew the largest turnout, but adults and families demonstrated that Halloween fun knows no age limit. Circleville Mayor Don McIlroy, city staff, and members of the Circleville Fire and Police Departments attended, cheering on the contestants and joining the community in the celebration.
The Downtown Circleville Halloween Fun Night serves as an additional festive evening ahead of the citywide Trick-or-Treat, scheduled for Thursday, October 30, from 6 to 8 p.m.
With candy, costumes, and laughter filling the streets, the event provided a night of creativity, joy, and community togetherness in the heart of Circleville.
