CIRCLEVILLE, OH – The Circleville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, in collaboration with the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, the Circleville Police Department, and the Ohio Department of Transportation, conducted an OVI (Operating a Vehicle Impaired) checkpoint on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on US 22. Details were released at 5:45 PM EDT on Monday, June 30, 2025, highlighting the operation’s outcomes.

Funded by federal grants, the checkpoint aimed to deter and intercept impaired drivers while raising awareness about the persistent issue of impaired driving. Saturation patrols were also deployed in surrounding areas to address alcohol- and drug-related fatal and serious injury crashes. During the three-hour event, law enforcement checked 418 vehicles, with no diversions needed to screen for impairment.

“The OVI checkpoint highlighted the strong relationships amongst law enforcement in Pickaway County,” said Lieutenant Shad Caplinger, Circleville Post Commander. “The combined efforts of all our partners made for a safe and effective checkpoint.” Caplinger extended thanks to the Ohio Department of Transportation and Box 65 for their ongoing support and partnerships.

Caplinger and the rest of Pickaway County Law Enforcement urged motorists to never drive impaired and to contribute to roadway safety. He also noted community resources, such as the Pickaway Overdose Response Team (P.O.R.T.), which offers referral assistance for those in need, emphasizing their commitment to the community.
