CIRCLEVILLE — Circleville police handled a heavy volume of calls over the weekend, responding to more than 140 incidents ranging from traffic stops and alarms to burglaries, thefts, fires and multiple arrests, according to the department’s weekend call-for-service report.

Police activity began early Thursday, Jan. 29, with a reported burglary in progress on Town Street shortly after 5:20 a.m. Officers took a report, and the incident remains under investigation. Later that morning, officers responded to vandalism on East Union Street and a hit-skip crash on East Ohio Street. Several additional non-injury crashes and property damage complaints were reported throughout the day.

Officers also responded to multiple domestic trouble calls, including incidents on Long Street, Plaza Drive, South Pickaway Street and Clark Drive. Several of those calls resulted in reports being taken, while others were resolved on scene or found to be gone on arrival.

Police made several arrests over the weekend, including an arrest related to a stolen vehicle on Maplewood Avenue Saturday morning. Officers also made arrests in connection with a warrant and a disorderly intoxication incident early Sunday morning on West Main Street.

Fire-related calls were also frequent, with officers assisting or responding to reports of structure fires, vehicle fires, carbon monoxide alarms and fire alarm activations across the city. Most were cleared without incident, though mutual aid was requested in a small number of cases. One medical-related call resulted in a squad transporting an individual to a hospital.

In addition to major incidents, officers conducted numerous business checks, extra patrols, traffic stops and well-being checks throughout the weekend. Several traffic stops resulted in warnings or citations, and police investigated reports of fraud, threats and harassment, unruly juveniles, and suspicious persons or vehicles.

Police also took reports for thefts on East Main Street and East Mound Street, as well as a burglary on East Corwin Street Saturday afternoon.

Many calls — including 911 hang-ups, alarms and suspicious activity reports — were ultimately cleared after officers were unable to locate anyone on scene or determined no further action was needed.

Circleville police said the weekend activity reflects routine but steady demand for service, with officers continuing investigations into several reported incidents.
