CIRCLEVILLE, OH – (June 5, 2025) OhioHealth Berger Hospital, in partnership with the OhioHealth Foundation, has awarded $19,900 in scholarships to 26 hospital associates this spring, marking the largest number of scholarships in the program’s history. The awards, which support continued education in healthcare, were presented during a ceremony at the hospital on May 7.

The scholarships were distributed through five funds supported by donors: the Jack W. McGuire Memorial Nursing Scholarship, Berger Gift Shop Nursing Scholarship, Berger Hospital Nursing Scholarship, Friends of Berger Scholarship, and Berger Medical Staff Nursing Scholarship. Recipients included nurses and non-nursing staff pursuing clinical or technical education, such as Kaci Amann, Jessica Bickley, Shira Scherer, Elyce Mullins, and Lindsay Bickenheuser, among others.

“Nurses are the heart of our healing mission and the soul of our communities,” said Gretchen Roberts, chief nursing officer at Berger Hospital. “Thanks to generous donors and our associates’ dedication to learning, we were able to award more scholarships this year than ever before.”

In addition to the scholarships, Berger Hospital honored several staff members with its 2025 Nursing Excellence Awards. Recipients included Kim Garrett (Unlicensed Assistive Personnel), Trish Conn (Licensed Personnel), William Walters (Licensed Leader), the Phlebotomy team (Best Ancillary Support), Dr. Abdulmagid Sherif (Best Physician Support), and Jessica Detty (Facets of Nursing Award).

“In healthcare, learning never stops,” Roberts added. “Medicine evolves, technology advances, and new ways of delivering care emerge. But what remains constant is the heart behind the work—the desire that our nurses and patient service associates have to grow, lead, and make our patients’ lives better.”

The scholarship program underscores Berger Hospital’s commitment to fostering education and professional growth, ensuring its staff can continue to provide exceptional care to the Circleville community.
