CHILLICOTHE, OH — The Circleville Giant Pumpkin Growers are inviting novice growers to participate in their Charlie Brown Contest with free pumpkin plants, announced Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 07:36 AM EDT. This unique contest is open to individuals who have never entered a giant pumpkin in the renowned Circleville Pumpkin Show, dubbed “the greatest free show on earth.”
The contest plants, derived from seeds of the Nancy Martin Pretty Pumpkin, are available for pickup at Ortmans Family Greenhouse, located at 105 Reo Drive, Chillicothe. Distribution hours are 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily. Participants who grow and enter the heaviest pumpkins from these plants will compete for cash prizes: $200 for first place, $150 for second, and $100 for third.
The Circleville Pumpkin Show, a highlight of the region, will showcase these entries, offering a fun opportunity for new growers to join the tradition. Don’t miss your chance to get started with a free plant!
