CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — City crews in Circleville have been working nonstop since the weekend to get heavy snowfall under control, with Public Utilities Director Jim Stanley saying the operation is far from over as bitter cold keeps snow from melting.

Stanley said the city has deployed two seven-person crews working 12-hour rotating shifts, providing 24-hour snow removal coverage since Saturday evening. Each shift includes two utility workers and five service department employees focused on plowing and hauling snow across the city.

“This isn’t a normal snow,” Stanley said. “These are not normal temperatures. Because of the cold, this snow isn’t going away any time soon, so our only choice is to move it.”

Circleville currently has seven snowplows in operation — five large plows and two smaller units — and crews have been actively removing snow rather than simply pushing it aside. Since 6 p.m. Saturday, dozens of truckloads of snow have been hauled away, first to Ted Lewis Park over the weekend and now to Bathomas Park as operations continue.

Stanley praised city employees for their dedication during the prolonged response. “These guys are busting their butts,” he said. “They’re a dedicated group of people.”

With more snow still lingering in residential areas, Stanley said the city plans to spend the coming week addressing harder-to-reach locations such as cul-de-sacs and narrow streets. To help speed up the process, residents are being asked to move parked vehicles when possible so crews can clear snow without blocking driveways or trapping cars.

Stanley also noted the city is ramping up efforts by bringing in contractors to assist with continued snow removal as conditions allow.
