Chillicothe — Enjoy the warm weather and history of the town with walking tours today and following weekends. My tour of Yoctangee Park starts off the season today, beginning at the gazebo at 10:00 and 2:00.
This periodic tour of Yoctangee Park is intended as a preview for the Feast of the Flowering Moon next weekend. (Watch out for the TOSRV cyclists this weekend!) Learn more on the event’s Facebook page.
Then I will offer cemetery tours as previews for Memorial Day ceremonies. Learn abut the geology, history, and art of our hilltop Grandview Cemetery – and the oldest part of the East Side Greenlawn Cemetery – next Saturday and Sunday, before the patriotic ceremonies on Monday.
Then on May 31st and/or June 1st, I plan a walking tour on South Paint Street along the oldest part of our threatened paper mill, starting at Paint and 8th streets. (Study my Facebook posts on the mill!)
And I’m happy to give encores of any of my past tours at any time by request. You can reach me at 740 / 775-4036, 740 / 771-8574 (mobile and texts), [email protected], or messaging on Facebook.

In Yoctangee Park today, within the 1-1/2 hour walks, I’ll talk about the origin of the park, its development through the years, and touch on its future.
We’ll look at the stone bridge, lake and former island, power line, bandstand, cabooses, arboretum character, lake outlet, fish fry location, historical Diamond No. 1, Memorial Armory, and floods.
The gazebo is located on the lakeside road across from the bandstand, where the brides like to get their photos.
My tours remain at their usual low cost of $10 for adults, half that for students (anyone in school), or $15 for families (parent/s and at least one child). Pay with cash or check when you meet me at the starting points.
Search my business (or personal) Facebook pages for tidbits about the park pre/history and my photos of it. Also look for other upcoming walking tours there – such as Goosetown, Paint Street, historical downtown industries, and more.
