Chillicothe & Ross County — The local League of Women Voters looked forward to their activities this year, in their recent annual meeting.

The Chillicothe-Ross County chapter is best known for their annual fall “Candidates Night” program or videos to introduce voters to who they can vote for. The league met at the library Main Annex on February 8th, 2026.

Melissa Green, president of the local chapter, said the League is a nonpartisan group focusing on voter education and empowerment, including voter registration and getting information to voters.

The League chooses a different focus of study each year, and the current one is education budget changes at the state and national level.

Green said the next big event for the Chillicothe-Ross County chapter is the month of March, Women’s History Month. She said they have an ongoing fundraiser.

Queen Lester, lifetime League member and member of Chillicothe Council, left her hat collection to the chapter. It is being auctioned online through the end of the month. The hats are on display in the Bennett Hall art gallery of Ohio University Chillicothe (and will be viewable at Thursday evening’s Black History Month Program at OUC).
