
CHILLICOTHE — The Chillicothe Police Department handled a series of high-priority calls on Thursday, March 5, including a shooting investigation, a burglary, and multiple alcohol-related traffic incidents.
Shooting Investigation Near VA Medical Center
The most serious incident of the day began at approximately 5:06 p.m. when officers were dispatched to the Chillicothe VA Medical Center regarding a shooting victim.
Preliminary investigations determined the shooting occurred at Chillicothe Kitchen and Bath, located at 814 Western Ave.. While the incident is currently listed as “Non-Criminal” in the initial media report, the narrative confirms an active investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the gunfire.
Burglary and Property Crimes
Property security was a major theme of the day shift:
- Burglary: At 12:12 p.m., units responded to an alarm on Porter Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered evidence of a trespass in an occupied structure. The investigation remains active.
- Criminal Trespass: Officers were called to 224 Vine St. at 3:59 p.m. for a trespass complaint. Later that evening, a reckless driver was investigated for trespassing in a restricted area of the Chillicothe Mall parking lot.
Traffic and OVI Arrests
Local roadways saw several significant disruptions:
- OVI & Crash: Just before 10:00 p.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Church St. and Allen Ave.. The driver was investigated for failing to obey traffic control devices and was subsequently charged with OVI after refusing a chemical test.
- Bridge Street Accidents: Two separate accidents occurred on N. Bridge St.—one at Pizza Hut (4:29 p.m.) involving a failure to yield, and another at the intersection of E. Main St. (8:23 p.m.).
- Hit-Skip: A report was taken for a “hit-skip” (hit and run) accident on River Trace Lane early in the afternoon.
Public Disturbance and Medical Calls
- Pilot Disturbance: Officers were called to the Pilot gas station at 1111 E. Main St. just after midnight to handle a disorderly conduct complaint.
- Medical Emergency: At 1:34 p.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to 393 E. Water St. regarding an unresponsive female. The incident was categorized as disorderly conduct involving a physically offensive condition/risk of harm.
