CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Chillicothe police responded to a wide range of calls on Tuesday, Dec. 23, including reports of thefts, forgery, disorderly conduct, and several serious investigations that remain ongoing.
Police opened an investigation into fraudulent checks being cashed along West Main Street after receiving a forgery complaint late in the morning. Several theft-related cases were also reported throughout the day, including incidents on North Bridge Street, East Main Street, South Hickory Street, West Fifth Street, and River Trace Lane. Many of those cases involved shoplifting or theft without consent, and investigators say several remain under review.
Officers also responded to a report of criminal mischief and theft at a body shop on North Bridge Street, as well as a public indecency complaint on Adams Avenue, where a report was taken.
A warrant arrest was made during a coordinated exchange with the Pike County Sheriff’s Office. Police took Amon Crabtree into custody on a failure-to-appear warrant issued by Chillicothe Municipal Court. He was transported to the Ross County Jail without incident.
Additional calls included a disorderly conduct complaint at a North Bridge Street business, a reported dog bite on North Poplar Street, and a threats-related call at a local credit union, which was documented but required no further action at the time.
More serious investigations were reported later in the evening. Officers responded to Piatt Avenue for a welfare check involving a suspicious death, and to Columbus Street following a report of a kidnapping involving alleged aggravated robbery and motor vehicle theft. Both cases remain under active investigation.
Police also handled reports of criminal trespass, shoplifting, a possible identity theft complaint on South Mulberry Street, a domestic violence-related assault near Burbridge Street, and an OVI investigation at a North Bridge Street restaurant parking lot, where a man was found passed out inside a vehicle.
Authorities say several of the cases from Dec. 23 remain open and are continuing to be investigated.
