Chillicothe Police Face Surge in Juvenile-Related Calls; Fraud and Theft Investigations Underway

CHILLICOTHE — The Chillicothe Police Department had a demanding 24-hour period on Tuesday, March 3rd, with a significant portion of their workload centered on missing and unruly juveniles, alongside multiple reports of theft and financial fraud.

Juvenile Issues Dominate Calls for Service

Officers responded to five separate incidents involving juveniles throughout the day. The activity began in the early morning hours at 2:01 AM, when police were dispatched to Madison Avenue regarding a missing juvenile.

The calls continued throughout the day:

  • Domestic Concerns: At 3:07 AM, officers investigated an unruly juvenile report on West 2nd Street.
  • Runaways: Police were called to West 5th Street just before noon and to Mill Street twice—once at 11:17 AM and again late at night at 11:31 PM—to handle reports of runaway and unruly juveniles.

Theft, Overdose, and Financial Fraud

Investigations into property and financial crimes spiked on Tuesday. Most notably, a fraud complaint involving company funds was filed by Atwood Autobody. An investigation was launched after the business contacted officers at the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) regarding the misuse of company money.

Other criminal activity included:

  • Larceny: Two separate thefts were reported in the 2:00 AM hour—one on East 4th Street and another at the BP station on North Bridge Street. A third theft report was filed on East 4th Street later that evening at 8:23 PM.
  • Suspected Overdose: At 3:23 PM, officers were dispatched to Dayton Street regarding a disorderly conduct call involving an intoxicated individual and a suspected drug overdose.

Warrants and Harassment

The department also remained active in serving legal process and addressing neighborhood disputes. Officers served three separate warrants at the Ross County Jail and on North Paint Street. Additionally, a report for telecommunications harassment and criminal trespassing was filed in the 100 block of East 2nd Street just before noon.
