CHILLICOTHE, OH — July 11, 2025
A Chillicothe man was arrested early Friday morning after police responded to a reported altercation involving a knife near the Speedway gas station at the corner of Main and Bridge Streets.
According to Chillicothe Police, officers were dispatched to the area just before 5:45 a.m. on July 11 in response to a fight in progress. Witnesses told dispatchers that one of the individuals involved had brandished a knife and fled the scene on a bicycle, heading toward a nearby bank parking lot.
Officer Jonathan Davis located a man matching the suspect’s description riding a bicycle on West Main Street. When police activated their cruiser’s lights, the suspect attempted to flee, circling the area before turning into an alley. The suspect, later identified as Ryan Mitchell, lost control of the bicycle and fell. Officer Davis pursued on foot and ordered Mitchell to show his hands.
As Mitchell complied, the officer observed him discard a plastic baggie before placing him under arrest. During a search incident to arrest, officers found two additional bags of suspected narcotics in Mitchell’s pockets along with a switchblade knife.
Mitchell was read his Miranda rights and transported to Adena Regional Medical Center for treatment of a reported broken collarbone from falling from the bike. He was issued a summons for obstructing official business and is scheduled to appear in Chillicothe Municipal Court on July 14 at 9:00 a.m.
The alleged victim in the incident, Charles Griffieth, left the scene before police arrived and could not be located for questioning.
The suspected narcotics were seized and sent to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) for testing. The knife was secured as evidence.
The case remains under investigation.
