CHILLICOTHE, OH – The Chillicothe Police Department is investigating a series of incidents stemming from a workplace dispute that led to the arrest of Corey Howes and Eden Canterbury on Sunday, July 20, 2025. The case, reported at 61 N. Bridge Street, remains active as officers address charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and aggravated menacing.
The incident began when Valero gas station Manager reported that Howes, a former employee, became irate after being fired for unprofessional behavior toward a customer the previous night. the manager alleged Howes yelled obscenities and threatened staff, saying, “I have something for everyone, fuck all of you,” prompting her to request he be barred from the property. Later, an employee informed the manager that Howes visited her home, squealing tires and making threats, while Canterbury allegedly called the store, threatening management by calling her a “dead bitch.”
Officers Joseph Gay, Shane Daubenmire, and Monique Lee responded to 108 S. Brownell St., where Howes and Canterbury reside. Upon arrival, both were confrontational. Officers informed them they were barred from the gas station and the residence at 20 S. Brownell due to their earlier misconduct. Howes escalated the situation by removing his shirt and challenging officers to fight, while Canterbury resisted arrest, falling to the ground and refusing to comply until physically restrained. She cited a leg injury but was assisted into a cruiser after being cuffed.
During the arrest, Canterbury admitted to calling the store, claiming she intended to “beat ass” and report issues to corporate, though she denied a direct threat. Howes continued resisting, requiring Officer Daubenmire to escort him to the ground for safety, where he was handcuffed and transported to Ross County Jail under emergency conditions after banging his head in the cruiser.
Howes faces charges of persisting disorderly conduct (M4) and resisting arrest, while Canterbury is charged with aggravated menacing. Both were issued summonses for a court appearance on Monday, July 21, 2025, at 9:00 AM at Chillicothe Municipal Court. Canterbury was refused by jail medical staff due to an open wound and released with her summons. The investigation continues as police gather further evidence.
