The GameStop location in Chillicothe will close later this month, becoming one of hundreds of stores nationwide the video game retailer plans to shutter as it continues to scale back its brick-and-mortar footprint.
The Chillicothe store, located at 950 N. Bridge St., is among 435 GameStop locations across 42 states slated for closure as of Sunday, January 11. Company filings show GameStop has already closed or announced plans to close more than 430 stores this month alone.
According to a recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, GameStop closed 590 stores during fiscal year 2024 and anticipates “closing a significant number of additional stores in fiscal 2025.” As of February 2025, the company operated 2,325 stores in the United States, meaning the latest round of closures represents a substantial reduction in its retail presence.
Ohio is seeing a significant impact, with 19 stores statewide scheduled to close. In addition to Chillicothe, closures include locations in Columbus, Canton, Cleveland Heights, Dublin, Marietta, Marysville, Troy, and several other communities.
The closures come as GameStop continues to wind down its international operations. The company has already exited Canada, Germany, Austria, Ireland, Switzerland, and Italy, with plans to leave France within the next 12 months.
GameStop has not announced what will happen to employees at individual locations or whether additional Ohio closures may be announced later this year.
