CIRCLEVILLE, OH — The curtains are rising on a theatrical disaster this March—but fortunately for local audiences, the “mess” is strictly intentional. Roundtown Players Theatre is bringing a dose of high-energy comedy to Memorial Hall with their latest production, All I Really Need to Know I Learned by Being in a Bad Play.
A fast-paced satire, the show offers a hilarious “peek behind the curtain” at the trials and tribulations of mounting a stage production.
A Masterclass in Theatrical Chaos
The play lampoons every cliché of the theater world, from the initial “cattle call” auditions to the final, frantic rehearsals. Audiences can expect to see:
- Distracted Directors: A leader more interested in roast beef than blocking.
- Eccentric Warm-ups: Actors preparing for their roles by pretending to be sizzling bacon.
- Passive-Aggressive Staff: A stage manager struggling to keep the “divas” in line.
The comedy reaches its peak with a “play within a play”—a bizarre rendition of Romeo and Juliet set in a Starbucks, featuring bowler hats and costumes made entirely of potato sacks.
Double the Talent, Double the Fun
Due to an “overwhelming” turnout of young local performers during the audition process, Roundtown Players opted to double-cast the production. This unique approach means the show will offer two distinct experiences:
- Rotating Casts: One full cast will handle the opening weekend, while a second ensemble takes over for the following weekend.
- Role Swaps: Some versatile actors will even switch characters between the two weekends, providing a fresh dynamic for those who wish to see the show twice.
