Laura Hammond, age 52 of Mount Sterling, Ohio, passed away as a hero on February 27, 2026. Laura lost her life while saving her grandson from being struck by an out-of-control car while in her parent’s front yard in Circleville, Ohio.
She is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, James Daniel (Dan) Hammond; children Jenna Callicott (husband Justin Callicott), Carter Hammond (fiancée Jasmine Jenkins), and Cooper Hammond; her cherished grandchildren Noah and Elijah; her beloved parents Larry and Judy Justice of Circleville, Ohio; sister Leanna Houser; brother Brant Justice (girlfriend, Julie Dane); and many treasured nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Laura graduated from Teays Valley High School in 1992. Gifted with natural curiosity and a talent for working with her hands, she loved learning new skills, often teaching herself through YouTube videos so she could take things apart and put them back together again. The Ohio State Buckeyes were a huge part of her life. She loved attending their Football games and Tailgates. She really enjoyed being around her work family at Kenworth Manufacturing in Chillicothe.
Laura was deeply devoted to her family. She frequently spoke about how blessed she felt and how grateful she was for the life they built together. Her love was steady, generous, and unwavering—a gift she gave freely to all.
Laura’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched—through her strength, her kindness, her talents, and her deep love for her family.
We will celebrate her life on Saturday March 14th.
