Carbon Monoxide Exposure at Fairfield County Home Claims One Life, Sends Multiple People to Hospital

BLOOM TOWNSHIP, Ohio — December 18, 2025 — The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a carbon monoxide exposure incident at a residence in the 9000 block of Slough Road that resulted in one fatality and multiple hospitalizations.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the home at approximately 9:32 a.m. after a report of an unconscious person. Upon arrival, responders found several individuals inside the residence suffering from symptoms consistent with carbon monoxide poisoning. A family pet was also affected.

A 96-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Two additional family members were transported to The Ohio State University Medical Center for treatment. As a precaution, seven fire personnel involved in the rescue and response were also taken to OSU Medical Center for medical evaluation due to possible exposure.

All individuals transported are receiving care, according to authorities.

The residence has been secured, and the scene was turned over to investigators. The Fairfield County Coroner’s Office responded and will determine the official cause and manner of death. The incident remains under investigation, and no further details have been released at this time.

The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents of the importance of installing and maintaining working carbon monoxide detectors in their homes to help prevent similar tragedies.
