Capital University is introducing Esports as its 23rd varsity sport, starting co-ed competition in fall 2026. President Jared Tice says it’s a perfect fit for the university, combining student opportunity, tech, and Columbus’ energy.
“This gives them a way to connect, compete, and represent Capital University with pride,” says Athletics Director Darrell Bailey.
The team will practice and compete on campus in Blackmore Library, with plans to develop a national championship-caliber arena and casting center. Capital joins over 200 U.S. and Canadian colleges with varsity Esports programs, competing in games like Super Smash Bros, Valorant, and Rocket League.
This move continues Capital’s athletic growth, following the addition of men’s and women’s bowling in 2024 and men’s tennis returning in 2026. Get ready for some pixelated competition! 🎮
